A new website, aimed at helping people in Cork and across the country learn more about skin cancer, has gone live. Myskincheck.com was developed by skincare expert La Roche-Posay to coincide with May Melanoma Awareness Month. The public website is dedicated to the early screening of skin cancer and enables individuals to diagnose their personal risk level, self-check moles and mole map.

Users of this site will also be able to learn more about skin cancer and read good sun practices.

It's hoped the new site will encourage the public to be more vigilant about their skin in between their visits to their General Practitioner or Dermatologist.

The latest data from the National Cancer Registry shows that there were over 6,800 new cases of skin cancer in 2005 (malignant melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer). Malignant melanoma is the second highest cancer diagnosed in the 30-45 year age group and the third highest in the 25- 40 age group.
