For many people packing can be a complete nightmare but it doesn't have to be. Before you go make a list of all the things you'll definitely need and then re-write it to make sure you haven't forgot anything and that you're not bringing anything that you might not actually need.

1. First, lay out the clothes you intend to bring on holidays including shorts, t-shirts, bikinis, sundresses and sandals. Make sure that everything still fits and then decide what clothes you know you'll wear and which ones your not so sure about. Most of us are guilty of packing clothes that never even make it out of the suitcase, so be sure to only pack the essentials for day and night wear.

2. Linens and delicate dresses are easily creased so either pack a travel iron or pack these items separately in ziplock bags before putting in your suitcase. By packing these in a ziplock bag you should be able to help prevent at least some ghastly wrinkles.

3. Pack only the cosmetics that you will need. It's unlikely that you'll wear make-up every day on holidays so just pack the basics and choose eyeshadows and lipsticks that will suit the look you are hoping to achieve. Instead of filling your case with shampoos and shower gels buy travel sized toiletries or pick-up some travel sized bottles for decanting your favourite beauty products.

4. Remember to bring at least one pair of comfortable shoes. These will be vital if you end up with sun burn on your feet, get any nasty blisters from those new and not very comfortable flip-flops or just for walking around. Pack shoes in a plastic bag so that they don't ruin you're gorgeous new clothes.

5. Don't forget to pack those essential accessories like a clutch for evening wear, sunglasses, a sun hat, an oversized beach bag, a sarong/kaftan, a loose t-shirt (again just in case you get sunburn),a light cardigan/jacket, a pashmina, your camera and charger/batteries, your ipod, sunscreen, a small first aid kit with plasters, aloe vera, pain killers etc) and a pen and paper.

Finally, make sure you're passport is in date- you'd be surprised how easy it is to end up at the airport with a recently expired passport . Once you've done this, pack it along with your tickets, holiday insurance, travellers cheques and a photocopy of all your documentation.
