An all singing, all dancing 'revolutionarily' production, all but four years in the making, is set to debut at the Cork Opera House this March. The premises for the production may seem strange, given that the protagonist of the production, one of Cork's most famous sons, is better known for his many battles, then any sort of booming baritone. But, having showcased a small scale performance in Cork last year, the producers of Michael Collins are now readying themselves for bigger and better things. Opening on Thursday, March 19, Michael Collins returns to the Cork Opera House with a larger production featuring live musicians and a full professional ensemble of 30 actors and singers. Since commissioning the musical drama in 2005, Cork Opera House has supported the artistic development of Michael Collins. In fledgling form, the drama has had outings with a staged workshop in Cork Opera House, workshops in the Theatre Royal in director Bryan Flynn's home town of Waterford and four showcase performances in Cork Opera House in February 2008. The show brings to life the events of the 1916 Rising, the War of Independence and the Irish Civil War. |
