Revenue officers have seized more than 90,000 unstamped cigarettes at Cork Airport. In a planned operation, officers from Revenue's Customs service at the airport seized over 90,000 cigarettes from four non-national males who had arrived on a flight from Lanzarotte on Tuesday (June 30). The cigarettes including 'West' and 'Viceroy' brands had a street value of approximately E35,000.

Following questioning by Customs officers one man was arrested and charged under the Finance Acts with evading the payment of Excise duty on cigarettes.

He was brought before Judge Uinseann Mc Gruairc at Cork District court where he has been remanded in custody for six days.
