Residents and interested parties in Blackpool have been invited to submit their ideas for the development of the area. Cork City Council is to prepare a Local Area Plan for North Blackpool which aims to set out a planning and development strategy for the zone. This plan comes as part of a wider strategy for the northside of the city, including an Action Area Plan for Blackpool Village and the recently adopted Farranferris Local Area Plan.

The Council have, therefore, invited local residents, businesses and interested parties to identify what issues they feel need to be addressed in the plan, and how the area should be developed and improved in the future.

The plan area includes the old Sunbeam site, Blackpool Shopping Centre and Retail Park and the Kilbarry rail site. It also extends to areas like the Old Whitechurch Rd, the North City Link Road fly-over and the Commons Road. Written submissions and observations are invited on the key planning and development issues to be considered in the plan. Copies of the consultation paper can be obtained from the Planning & Development Directorate or on the City Council's website at www.corkcity.ie.

The deadline for submissions or observations is 4.30pm on Friday 18 December. Submissions may be posted, or emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Applicants are asked to include their name and address and postal submissions are to be mailed to: Kevin Terry, Director of Services & City Engineer, Planning & Development Directorate, City Hall, Cork, phone: 021-4924757
