The Cork Institute of Technology unveiled the 2008 – 2009 Continuing Education Prospectus for Courses today, Thursday, August 15. The Minister for Education & Science, Batt O'Keeffe, TD was present to launch the new prospectus which gives details on the courses on offer at CIT, one of the largest provider of Continuing Education and CDP in Ireland, second only to DIT. The newest prospectus offers in excess of 150 courses, across the disciplines of Engineering, Science, Business, Humanities, Maritime, Music and Art. Adult learners may progress from Level 6 Higher Certificate to Level 10 Doctoral Degree, on a part-time basis. The Continuing Education Programme offers a flexible ladder system which allows participants to progress from one level of award to the next. This incremental approach is the bed-rock of CIT's continuing education programme as students can undertake a commitment which suits their social, learning and economic needs, resulting in an internationally recognised qualification. For CIT, Continuing Education and Continuing Professional Development (CDP) are vital areas of its total education provision. The President of CIT, Dr Brendan Murphy said, "In 2008/2009 the Department of Continuing Education faces a new challenge because of the perceived economic downturn. For the foreseeable future job mobility will decrease and the challenge for CIT will be to communicate the benefits of Continuing Education, CDP and up-skilling to prospective students, thus enabling them to be more secure in their current employment and for their future promotional prospects". Minister Batt O'Keeffe said that, "In today's economy the banking, engineering, IT software, financial and other service industries are fast growing sectors, making it more important that ever for professionals to acquire the skills and knowledge they need, not only to accept change but to embrace change and excel in serving their customers. It is therefore appropriate that CIT should offer 'state of the art' courses in order to produce a constant cohort of highly qualified graduates". The 2008-2009 Continuing Education prospectus is available on line at www.cit.ie or on application to 021 4326577. |
