A consortium of business people interested in looking at the affairs of Cork City FC with a view to attempting to save the club has said that if successful, it intends on giving fans of the Rebel army a 10 per cent share in the club. The Cork Hibernian Partnership, which is made up of a number of prominent business people in Cork, is one of a number of interested parties that has requested the financial books of the club from Examiner Kieran McCarthy. The partnership will today (Thursday, September 4) receive the full set of financial materials for the club which they will be examining closely. Michael Mulcahy, spokesperson for the group said that they believe that it is possible to save the club but, that this is dependent on whether the debts can be repaid as well as a good business model and new management team. He said that if any potential bid for the club is successful, the consortium are very interested in fully involving the fans of Cork City FC in the club. "If any potential bid we make is successful, we would want to see the fans get at least 10 per cent of the shares. We are interested in talking to fan groups and involving them." Sonia O' Sullivan, spokesperson for Foras, the supporter's trust set up by fans of Cork City Football Club said that efforts to include fans in the club by way of such shares would be welcomed by fans. "People want to have a voice and want to have a say in the club and I think the option of giving fans shares in the club would be very welcome," she said. Mr Mulcahy said while he could not divulge who was involved in the consortium that it involved a number of prominent business men including one of the biggest property developers in Cork. He did say though that if the Cork Hibernian Partnership's bid for the club was successful that they would share all the information about the consortium including who the financial backers are. "The discussions are at a preliminary stage and we hadn't intended on making this public. However, if the bid is successful we intend on sharing all the information about the consortium in a transparent way with the people of Cork including who the financial backers are," he said. |
