City based art groups are being invited to apply for funding for projects ahead of the launch of a new City Council Arts Grants Scheme.
The Lord Mayor Cllr Donal Counihan will officially launch the scheme in Cork City Hall on Thursday, November 29, but professional arts organisations and community and voluntary groups throughout the city area are being urged to get their applications ready such is the anticipated level of interest. The Lord Mayor welcomed the scheme when he said, “Cork is a city rich in arts and cultural activity. Through this scheme City Council recognizes and supports this important sector of our community and recognizes it intrinsic value to this place”. Cllr Jim Corr, Chair of the City Council Arts Committee, praised the individuals and organisations supported by the scheme. “Every year we, as Council Members, are incredibly impressed with the breath and depth of artistic activity throughout the city, and the commitment demonstrated by people, both in a professional and voluntary capacity. We aim through these grants to help people to continue and develop their work and look forward to seeing the results on our stages, screen and walls”.
The activities support must be arts focused and must happen within the City Councils administrative area. Applicants will usually have an established track record and their work will be familiar to the Arts Office. The Arts Committee makes recommendations on all applications, while any final decisions are made by the members of City Council. The Arts Office are also offering professional expertise if required.
