Both Conor Counihan and Gerald McCarthy have been retained for two more years in their roles as Senior Football and Senior Hurling managers respectively.

The Cork County Board this week ratified the appointments ending weeks of speculation surrounding the managerial positions. McCarthy future in particular was the subject of much discussion with rumours circulating over possible retirements from the squad should he be retained.

In the end County board delegates voted 88-6 to ratify the recommendation of the selection committee. However it is understood that the two Cork hurlers on the seven-man committee, John Gardiner and Donal óg Cusack, did not vote on McCarthy´s nomination because of what they perceived to be serious problems with the process.

Counihan´s appointment will have been welcomed after an encouraging start to his tenure which has seen the Cork football team overcome a players strike to eventually win the Munster Championship and reach the All Ireland Semi-Finals. His selectors will be Ger O´Sullivan (Dromtariffe), Terry O´Neill (Bantry Blues), Peader Healy (Naomh Aban) and Jim Nolan (Castlehaven).
