A Cork student has scooped a European Union prize for his knowledge about healthy eating as part of the EU Healthy Eating Campaign called The Tasty Bunch. Glasheen Boys National School pupil Seamus Hickey proved he was ahead of the health game when he came second place in Europe for taking part in the on-line treasure hunt competition.

The Cork student won a new mountain bike for his efforts in the competition, which was organised by the Agriculture and Public Health services of the European Commission.

According to a recent Eurobarometer survey, 22 million children in the EU are overweight, with five million of those being obese.

Launched in September 2009, The Tasty Bunch campaign has run alongside the EU's School Fruit Scheme and School Milk Scheme, which are all initiatives to encourage balanced diets and healthier eating habits amongst children.
