This year's ACC Bank Cork Week could generate as much as €40 million for the economy. While estimates published this week have suggested that the event could generate between €10 and €20 million, according to Jean Kearney, Media Spokesperson for the event, in reality this figure could be much higher.

She said that when you consider all the money spent onshore on accommodation, transport, food and drink, surplus staff , entertainment and of course sailing equipment as well as the money generated from broadcasts of the event, this year's ACC Bank Cork Week could generate up to €40 million , substantially boosting the local economy.

More than 400 boats are taking part in this year's event with in the region of 5,000 sailors taking to the water over the course of the regatta. This strong contingent of sailors from across Ireland as well as from as far afield as Hong Kong, South Africa and Australia is joined each day by hundreds more spectators, with an estimated 10,000 people attending the tented village each night to enjoy the entertainment on offer.

According to Jean Kearney, the interest in the night-time entertainment has been growing steadily since last Friday night and even larger crowds were expected for last night's Paddy Casey gig and this weekend's line-up.

Tickets for ACCBank Cork Week are available from www.ticketmaster.ie.
