Western suburbs anti-high-rise pressure group, Communities for Sustainable Development (CSD) have written to Cork City Council seeking the inclusion of the threatened green at Bishopscourt, Bishopstown, the existing trees on the green, and adjacent house (recently sold) to be included in the Record of Protected Structures (RPS) on social grounds as allowed under the Planning and Development Act, Section 51.

According to CSD spokesperson Mick Murphy the group fully supports the local residents in Bishopscourt in their efforts to retain the green area as an amenity. Commenting on a proposed amendment to the City Development Plan designed to protect such amenities, Mr Murphy said, "While the proposed revised wording to amend the current City Development Plan 2004-09 to help protect the green is welcome, we in CSD feel that this proposed amendment alone lacks the necessary strength to ensure that this vital green area of our city does not end up in the hands of property speculators". He added, "The mere proposal by Cork City Council to include this house and Green area on the RPS list would ensure the maximum protection available under the Planning & Development Act as the Act now exists.

"Cork City Council now have the opportunity to but their words of support for the residents of the area into action to help protect our community from further onslaught of property speculators, as actions speak louder than words we hope the Council will act on this matter immediately".
