The move followed a post mortem examination yesterday afternoon which revealed the cause of the Cork man’s death, details of which have not been released.

A spokesperson for the Gardaí said at this stage it is imprudent for the investigators to specify the cause of death, as it may prejudice aspects of the case at a later stage, however, the spokesperson confirmed that there were no significant  injuries to the man’s body.

Speaking at a press confernece held at Gurranabraher Garda Station yesterday evening, Supt. Con Cadogan who is leading the investigation said, “Obviously we are in the very early stages of the ivestiagtion as yet and are progressing and exploring all avenues of the investigation”.

Supt. Cadogan confirmed that Gardaí had carried out door to door enquires at 200 homes in the area and that everbody aged over 16 in the locality has been asked to fill in a questionairre.

He said that forensic investigations would continue at the scene today and appealed for local people to come forward with any information they thought relevant, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

Supt Cadogan concluded that it was early days but the gardaí are not ruling out robbery as a possible motive, he added that Mr Hornibrook did operate an “open door” policy.”
Christopher Hornibrook was found dead at his home at Templeacre Avenue, Gurranabraher at lunchtime on Tuesday, where he lived alone.

Gardaí were alerted to the scene after the man’s body was discovered by a relative and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster and members of the Garda Technical Bureau spent several hours at Mr Hornibrook’s home on Tuesday night before his body was removed from the scene for post mortem.

The crimescene at Templeacre Avenue continues to be subject to a technical / forensic examination by a Crime Scene Investigation Team from the Garda Technical Bureau and the investigation is being headed by the local District Officer, Superintendent Con Cadogen with appropriate assistance from local and national specialist units.

Gardai are once again appealing for any person who was in the Templeacre Avenue area between 9.15pm on Monday, November 5 and 12.30pm on Tuesday, November 6 to contact the Incident Room at Gurranabraher Garda Station at 021-4946209.
