Community spirit is alive and well in Glanmire. The latest round of adverse weather has brought out a response from the community, which has seen the valley town remain accessible despite freezing conditions. A combined effort between a local councillor, store owner and residents associations has seen the roads and thoroughfares in the many residential estates of Glanmire kept safe over the past week.

Liam Ryan, of Ryan's Supervalu in Glanmire, and Labour Councillor, John Gilroy arranged for 200 tonnes of grit to be supplied to various estates throughout the suburb last week.

The community drive saw, according to Cllr Gilroy, 350 residents out gritting roads last weekend. Grit was sourced from O'Neills Quarry in Ballincollig at a cost of €2,000 which was covered by Liam Ryan.
