Originally from Lissarda, John has worked on all four series of Reeling in the Years which looks back at the news and events of a particular year, from 1962 to 1999, and music from the particular year is also played over the footage.

Cork Person of the Month Awards organiser Manus O’Callaghan said, “By definition, this series on recent Irish social and political history can never date and will continue to be even more interesting in the years ahead.

"To turn black and white TV footage into television gold takes a special creative talent, and that is what John O’Regan did in pictures and sound in Reeling In The Years,” added Mt O’Callaghan.

Mr O’Regan was recently promoted to Special Events Executive Producer for RTÉ News and Current Affairs and was responsible for this year’s acclaimed general election coverage.  John has also worked on You’re a Star, the Late Late Show and Tubridy Tonight.

He has worked in television for 20 years, making programmes for ITV, BBC, Channel Four and RTÉ and spent several years in Granada TV’s News and Current Affairs departments, directing live news and making documentaries for Northern Ireland during the troubles and in Sarajevo during the Bosnian war.

He also directed ITV’s 1997 British general election campaign debate programmes and on behalf of RTÉ will cover the next British general election.

John’s name now goes forward, with the other monthly winners, for possible selection as Cork Person of the Year on January 25next.  President Mary McAleese will be guest of honour at the gala awards lunch at the Sheraton Fota Island Hotel.
