World renowned violin virtuoso Nigel Kennedy looks set to be one of the biggest musical attractions in Cork this year after selling out his performance at Cork City Hall on December 8. ![]() Cork Awaits Kennedy!! The concert is set to be the highlight of Cork's cultural calendar this year with tickets selling out in under 90 minutes. Pic Daragh Mac Sweeney/Provision Mr Kennedy will be performing with the Cork Symphony Orchestra (CSO) for whom the show represents a record in terms of ticket sales. The CSO is Europe’s longest established amateur orchestra and the musicians are continuing to practice round-the-clock for the violin virtuoso’s impending arrival. By the day of the performance the orchestra will have put in more than 100 hours of preparation as a group ahead of performing in front of the 1,200-strong audience. Tickets for the event sold out in less than 90 minutes and the CSO has been inundated with calls over the past number of months from Kennedy fans from around the globe for tickets with dedicated fans set to travel from as far a field as Australia, Italy, France, Japan, Spain and Poland. The CSO website is also receiving up to 800 hits a day with fans searching for tickets. Brian Murphy, Leader of the CSO said, “This is a great coup not just for the CSO but for Cork as a city. We have worked tirelessly over the past 12 months to secure Nigel’s appearance and we promise an amazing night will be had. The response to the event from everyone has been phenomenal from Cork City Manager, Joe Gavin, to the Cork Airport Authority and UCC to our sponsors, Deloitte, Murphy MacNamara, AIB, Savills HOK and The Kingsley Hotel we are hugely grateful to all for their unwavering support”. |
