The Cork Independent understands that Neil Young, Jay Z and Girls Aloud are to be confirmed as the next set of headliners for the Live at the Marquee series. Girls Aloud had been expected to be announced yesterday, Wednesday, February 6, but an unforeseen delay prevented the chart-topping girl group from being officially unveiled. Sinead Watters of Aiken Promotions, speaking to the Cork Independent, said however that the platinum selling group were not pulling out of the show and an official announcement was imminent. "Girls Aloud were due to confirm a show for the Live at the Marquee series at lunch-time today (Wednesday, February 6)," said Sinead, "but as of this time we have not received that confirmation and so the official announcement was postponed. We do expect them to confirm very soon though." She remained tight-lipped however over mounting speculation that rock legend Neil Young and Jay Z, one of the most successful rappers of all time, will be joining the British girl group at the festival, which is taking place this year at the Cork Docklands, Centre Park Road from Thursday, June 19 until Sunday, July 6. Peter Aiken, head of Aiken Promotions, has made no secret of his desire to bring Neil Young to the Marquee. While it is believed the Canadian songwriter, best known for albums such as After the Gold Rush and Harvest, has yet to officially sign up for the series, but sources close to Aiken say they are confident that he will play Cork this summer. Jay Z, the most financially successful rapper of all time and a legend in the hip-hop game, meanwhile was confirmed as one of this years Glastonbury headliners, with a European tour said to be in the offering, leading to strong speculation that he will play Cork. If and when confirmed they will join Eric Clapton, Shayne Ward, Paul Weller, Christy Moore, Dolly Parton and Tommy Tiernan, all of whom were announced earlier this week, at the Marquee series. Clapton's show has already sold out, as has one of the Tommy Tiernan performances. |
