The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Dara Murphy has issued invitations to both the Secretary General of the Cabinet, Mr Dermot McCarthy and Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny to hold one of its weekly Cabinet meetings and front bench meetings respectively in Cork.
In his letters Cllr Murphy highlighted the strategic importance of Cork at a national level, following on from a promise made on the night of his election to do so.
"It is my ambition to endeavour at every opportunity, to raise the awareness of Cork city and county at national level. As you are no doubt aware Cork is the Republic of Ireland's second city and the population of the greater Cork city area is similar to the combined population of Limerick, Galway and Waterford cities," said the Lord Mayor. "It is therefore essential that our issues and requirements are seen as key national priorities and not just local or regional concerns."
