A 50-year-old Corkman who cannot be named to protect his victims has been jailed for four years for raping his two sisters more than 30 years ago.

Mr Justice Paul Butler sentenced the man at the Central Criminal Court yesterday (Wednesday) on four counts, one each of rape and of indecent assault of each sister. The offences took place in County Cork in 1971 and 1972.

The man had denied 30 charges at the beginning of the trial, four of which were withdrawn. Concurrent sentences totalling four years were imposed with the final three years suspended.

Mr Justice Butler said that he had to take into account that the man was just 14-years-old when the offences happened and that he was not a risk for re-offending.

The man's name will also be added to the register of sex offenders.

Gardaí said the man had no previous convictions and had never come to their attention before.
