The Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin TD joined President and CEO of Millipore, Martin Madaus earlier this week to officially open Millipore's new IC2 Membrane Casting Area at their facility in Carrigtwohill. The €85 million facility, which is supported by Government through IDA Ireland, will produce 30 million sq. ft. of PES membrane and Durapore product per year, doubling the production of these products at the Carrigtwohill facility. The official opening of the new IC2 facility coincided with Millipore's twentieth anniversary celebrations in Ireland. The Carrigtwohill facility first opened its doors in 1998 and over the last three years a number of Millipore's manufacturing lines have been transferred from Puerto Rico, France and the US to Cork. Today, the facility employs 580 people and the Cork plant manufactures 85 per cent of Millipore's global membrane output and 100 per cent of its life science device output. Speaking at the official opening, Martin Madaus President and CEO of Millipore, said that he was very proud of the success of the Carrigtwohill facility which is one of three of Millipore's Centres of Excellence across the globe. "The people here are our most important asset, without them we wouldn't be here today. It's safe to say that we plan to be here for many more years to come," he said. Minister Martin described the announcement as an excellent example of the strong trade and investment ties between the US and Ireland and said that Millipore was a superb example of an Irish operation of a global company capitalising on the best that Ireland offers the international investors. "Today's anniversary and investment announcement sends out a signal that Ireland is a good place to invest and to do business, that Ireland is open to challenges and new ideas, that the Irish government and organisations such as IDA Ireland are willing to work closely with investors to create the right conditions for companies to grow and deepen their presence in Ireland," he said. |
