Cork-based media company Thomas Crosbie Holdings (TCH) which owns the Irish Examiner, Evening Echo, Sunday Business Post and several other regional newspapers around thecountry faces the loss of supplements and inserts in its publications due to a dispute with its printers, Webprint Concepts (WCL).

The row between the media company and the printers (of which TCH is the principal creditor) has arisen over an alleged breach of contract, which has resulted in WCL threatening to refuse to print supplements and inserts in TCH’s three major and 17 regional titles.

WCL is claiming €11.2 million plus damages from TCH over the alleged breach of contract, details of which have not been publicly disclosed. The High Court in Dublin has been told that mediation talks between the two parties have not proved successful and it is now likely the case will be referred to the Commercial Court.

MR Justice Frank Clarke agreed to grant a temporary injunction preventing the threatened action going ahead but this will be reviewed, allowing the parties time for further talks.

The Webprint Concepts plant located in Mahon near Mahon Point Shopping Centre was officially opened by Minister Micheál Martin two years ago. TCH closed its in-house printing operations which had been in place for more than 150 years and outsourced production to the new facility.
