The luxury South African mansion of one of the convicted drug smugglers will be auctioned by authorities there with the proceeds to go towards the fight against drugs in South Africa. Martin Wanden's coastal property near Cape Town which has six bedrooms, a swimming pool, four car garage and terrace was seized by South Africa's Asset Forfeiture Unit, similar to the Criminal Assets Bureau here and is now set to be auctioned off. The proceeds of the sale will be re-invested into the fight against drugs in South Africa, say authorities there. When Wanden and his associates were arrested in Cork in July last year a major investigation was set in motion around the world into money laundering and drug running across the globe. The South African authorities estimate the Cape Town mansion to be worth in the region of €1.2 million. |
