Convicted drug smuggler Perry Wharrie who was convicted last week for his role in the Dunlough Bay drugs haul was in court again yesterday (Wednesday) facing extradition proceedings which may see him sent to the UK accused of breaking his parole conditions after he left the country after being released from prison where he had served 17 years for murder. Mr Wharrie was convicted in 1989 of the murder of an off-duty policeman who tried to prevent Wharrie and his associates robbing a security van. He had been missing since his release from prison in 2006 until he was arrested on the Mizen Peninsula in July last year for his part in the €1 billion West Cork drug smuggling operation. The High Court adjourned the extradition proceedings against Wharrie until October 15 when a date will be set for a full hearing. |
