Model: Hyundai Santa Fe The SUV has taken a bad rap in the last couple of years. Those who drive them are regularly made to feel like motoring pariahs. In fairness the vast majority of motorists don't need an off-road vehicle but the truth is that most of these cars aren't off-roaders at all. They are the modern equivalent of the estate car of years gone by and to be honest many of them aren't half as thirsty and bulky as they are made out to be. Take the Hyundai Santa Fe. It's not really a secret that this car isn't targeted at Afghan rebels or Outback farmers. It's a family car and it offers plenty of room for the kids and the dog and the shopping and that's the point. It's not really that huge though in terms of dimensions and it's thrifty, economical 2-litre diesel engine comes way down the league table of polluters. The Santa Fe has been a big hit in Ireland mainly because when new it isn't ridiculously over-priced like some of its rivals. And let's be honest, if you've got a few kids it's a damn sight better option than a Ford Fiesta or a Fiat Grande Punto. This one has just 35,000 miles on the clock and boasts ABS, air conditioning, airbags, alarm, alloy wheels, CD player, remote central locking, climate control, cruise control, electric windows, fog lights, immobiliser, leather seats, leather steering wheel and metallic paint. |
