Mike Darcy was born in Macroom, and after leaving school moved to Cork and studied law in UCC. While early in his legal career as a solicitor, DJing was simply a hobby that paid the bills. However Mike eventually decided to join the entertainment business full time and founded Sam's Entertainments- now one of Cork's leading Event Management companies.

Sam's Entertainments is one of Munster's principal suppliers of adult and kids' party entertainment and of course formed Club Kickback at the Everyman Palace with co-founder Deborah Dignam to bring that something special they felt was missing from the Cork club scene.

How long have you been driving?

20 years

What was your first car?

Volkswagen Polo

What do you drive today?

Citroen Xantia

How often do you change your car?

Whenever I get the mood. I can't even remember how many cars I've had, but the Xantia will stay for a while for its dependability, economy, and great suspension.

Your favourite place to drive?

South of France, or any place that means I'm on holidays! Recently I had a holiday with 10 others so I hired a minibus and we had a great time in that.

The best car you ever drove?

Pretty much any French car, as long as they stay recognisably French, i.e. a little bit stylish or maybe even eccentric. That's probably not best as such, is it? My old Merc E200 really, as an all rounder.

What's your dream car?

A Jaguar XJS convertible to cruise vineyards of South of France.

What's on your CD player?

Marvin Gaye, What's Going On? and after that Lee Dorsey, Working in A Coalmine. Soul, jazz, a bit of indie and some world music normally.

Worst thing about driving in Cork?

Don't you know that there's nothing wrong about driving in Cork, or anything else in Cork. Aren't we the Chosen People, for God's sake? Other than that, everyone who drives a huge 4x4 and drives like nothing else is on the road. But they're obviously from Dublin or some place.

Best thing about driving in Cork?

The road between Blarney Street and Kerry Pike for the view.

Club Kickback features DJ Mike Darcy and guests every Friday night at the Everyman Palace Theatre. Doors at midnight. Tickets €10 on the door.
