Simon Coveney is a Fine Gael TD for Cork South Central. He was first elected in a 1998 by-election following the death of his father Hugh Coveney. He was re-elected at the 2002 and 2007 general elections and also served as an MEP from 2004 to 2007. He is currently Fine Gael’s front bench spokesperson for communications, energy and natural resources.

How long have you been driving? 
I’ve been driving for 17 years.

What was your first car?
It was a Peugeot 205.

What do you drive today? 
Today I drive a Volkswagen Passat 1.9 D.

How often do you change your car?  
I change it about every two years.

What’s your favourite place to drive?  
My favourite drive is from Goleen to Crookhaven.

What’s the best car you ever drove?
Probably a Mercedes CLK Coupe.

What’s your dream car?
That would be an Aston Martin DBS (It’s a bit heavy on the emissions though).

What’s on your CD player? 
Tom Baxter at the moment.

Worst thing about driving in Cork? 
Traffic at rush hour.

Best thing about driving in Cork? 
Getting out of the city.
