The fact that many of these resources are located in the least stable parts of the world will surely only lead to further conflicts down the road.

In the meantime, if you do decide to try and help the environment by taking the train it seems you may as well stay at home. The ridiculous unofficial industrial action by train drivers is proof, of ever it were needed that Irish Rail needs a root and branch overhaul. These drivers don’t seem to understand the concept of working in the 20th century, let alone the 21st. They should be bloody glad to have their well-paid jobs.

Apparently there is an objection to attending to duties “as required” when you are at work. The whole thing came to a head last week when a train driver refused to drive a train to Charleville for training a new driver. In most jobs these days refusing to carryout duties as basic as this would get you the sack, and rightly so. Thousands of people journeys were disrupted as a result right across the weekend.

In all honesty, it time to look into that pony and trap.
