Mondeo Man

Poor old Mondeo Man gets a bad press, but he's the real backbone of the Irish economy. He's probably married to School Run Mum and spends most of his drive time in traffic jams. He's also used to having his breakfast/lunch/dinner in the car. His wife thinks he doesn't earn enough, but his kids are delighted when they eventually get to see him.

What he drives now: A Ford Mondeo.
After the changeover: A Ford Mondeo.

Jack of All Trades

Jack has benefited most from the economic boom. He managed to sell off a couple of the family's fields and his "development" company hasn't looked back. He's appeared on the tax defaulters list which he is proud of. He's technically a builder but never gets his hands dirty and calls everyone he doesn't know "boss" including women and children. His house has seven bedrooms and a sunroom but he can't shift anything in his latest development.

What he drives now: A Mitsubishi pick up with spotlights on the roof and chrome bumpers.
After the changeover: A Transit van.

Boy Racer

Boy racer is under 25, is full of hormones and has a penchant for banging techno. His social life consists of driving down country lanes at night at high speed and doing handbrake turns in supermarket car parks. He's not particularly bright and he thinks that earring looks really cool.

What he drives now: A Toyota Starlet Glanza.
After the changeover: An ambulance or a hearse.

The Greenies

The Greenies don't need converting to the Green message. They are ahead of the game. The kids go to the Gaelscoil, daddy is an architect and mammy works two days a week in a charity shop. They already have solar panels on the roof and a thermal heat pump that doesn't work.

What they drive now: A Citroen MPV
After the changeover: A diesel Citroen MPV

Dan the man

Dan is an enigma. To those who don't know him he's an unremarkable fellow. Very pleasant, no airs and graces and dressed in Dunnes Stores finest. Behind the facade however, Dan is the man. In fact he's a multi-millionaire. He cares little what his car says about him because he is comfortable in his own skin. He's the most successful of all the tribes and isn't impressed by ostentation.

What he drives now: A six-year-old saloon.
After the changeover: A seven-year-old saloon.
