Page 1 of 2 Get the point, not the points moron The world of motoring was shaken to its foundations last week when a new study was published focusing on a particular aspect of road safety.
Transport Minister Noel Dempsey was also prompted to comment on the report saying that its findings were a stark warning to all road users. What did the report find? Well, using a mobile phone while you are driving makes you more likely to have an accident. Yes, I know you probably can’t believe what you are reading but talking on the telephone when you should have both hands on the wheel and chatting to your mates increases the likelihood of you having a crash. Apparently, texting is even worse. It is of course comforting to known that the limited funds available for research into road safety are being so well spent. Without this groundbreaking study we would never have known and thousands of people would have gone on unwittingly risking their lives, chatting away on the phone while driving.
Luckily the authorities must have had some prior inkling to the hazards of chatting and driving though, because they had in their wisdom already banned using a mobile while driving. No only that, it’s also illegal to simply hold a mobile when driving or use one when you are stuck in traffic.
