As most commuters spend a large amount of their driving time sitting stationary in traffic jams or doing less than 5mph it’s good to know that they can still get done for it at these break-neck speeds. A handy spin off too is that it generates thousands in revenue for the state, but I’m, sure that has nothing to do with it.

The breakthrough is set to lead to a revolution in the Irish approach to road safety. Apparently the RSA are now pushing for a raft of new legislation to reduce the likelihood of accidents. Motormouth understands that among the proposals will be a ban on eating a Sunday roast while driving, a ban on driving while wearing a blindfold and a ban on allowing family pets to drive.

New, detailed studies on all these activities are expected to reveal that each makes the likelihood of having a crash up to four times more likely. In the case of driving wearing a blindfold the likelihood of an accident is even greater.

The Department of Transport is also set to commission further detailed studies at a cost of E18 million which will look at the potential safety implications of driving with your feet, driving while asleep and driving when female.
