Ford has unveiled more details of the new Fiesta model due in Ireland later this year. The new Fiesta was developed in Europe for customers around the world. Ford claim that it extends core Fiesta values of style, efficiency and value for money.

This new Fiesta model comes with a specially-tuned Electric Power Assist Steering that Ford claims offers low-speed steering ease with more direct driver feedback at higher speeds. Two new engines will be available for the fiesta. The first is a new ultra-low CO2 Fiesta ECOnetic engine with target emissions of just 99g/km. The second engine option is a new top-of-the-range 120bhp 1.6-litre Duratec Ti-VCT petrol unit.

This new Fiesta is 40kg lighter than the current model, which helps the car to achieve a good economy and low CO2 emission level. Despite the lighter weight the car's safety features are not compromised as over 55% of the body structure is made of high-strength steels.

Ford claims that the stiffer body structure and reduced vehicle weight delivers 'light-yet-solid' driving feel. Ford is using its Intelligent Protection System with standard knee airbag, a first in a Ford small car, and head-and-thorax side airbags, with optional safety curtain airbags plus an array of pedestrian protection features.

'Big car' convenience features brought to the Fiesta small car segment, include Ford EasyFuel capless refuelling, keyless entry and 'Ford Power' start button. Mobile phone-inspired entertainment system, plus sophisticated Human Machine Interface provides the dash board design. And Ford claims better driver comfort with improved seating and now full reach and rake steering wheel adjustment.
