Sleep detectors in cars – BMA call E-mail

The British Medical Association (BMA) has suggested that sleep detectors should be installed in all company cars to stop drivers nodding off. The call comes on the back of estimates that 20% of car crash deaths each year are caused by drivers falling asleep at the wheel.

Sleep detectors assess combinations of driver reactions such as eyelid movement, breathing patterns and the angle of their head. An alarm sounds if a driver nods off.
