Man released in Amy McCarthy homicide case

A man has been released from garda custody in relation to a city centre homicide.

Amy McCarthy’s body was discovered at a vacant premises on Sheares Street in Cork city on 30 April.

Gardaí from Bridewell station, Cork city arrested a man on Tuesday.

A garda spokesperson said that the man was 26 years of age and said he was arrested in relation to the homicide of 22 year old Amy McCarthy.

The man was arrested on Tuesday morning in the midlands and was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Bridewell Garda Station.

He was released without charge on Wednesday afternoon.

A file will now be prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
