Cybercrime attack on Musgrave

Wednesday, 11th October, 2017 4:58pm

Musgrave has been the subject of a cybercrime attack, it was revealed this week.

The wholesaler said the attack had impacted its network and SuperValu, Centra and Daybreak stores.

The incident, which happened on Monday, has been reported to An Garda Síochána and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

Musgrave’s statement said: “Musgrave detected that malicious software was attempting to extract debit and credit card numbers and expiry dates, but not the cardholder name, PIN number or CCV number.

“While there is no evidence that any data has been stolen at this point, Musgrave is advising any concerned shoppers to review activity on their statements as a precautionary measure.

“Musgrave’s cyber breach response experts have installed advanced technical fixes and continue to actively manage and monitor the situation.”

The company apologised to its customers for the issue and assured them that protection of information and maintenance of high security standards are absolute priorities for the company.
