West Cork collision claims life
An elderly man died after he was struck by car yesterday evening in West Cork.
Gardaí in Clonakilty are investigating a single vehicle fatal collision involving a car and the pedestrian that occurred on Fernhill Road in Clonakilty at approximately 7.15pm yesterday.
Gardaí wish to appeal for witnesses who may have travelled this road between 7pm and 7.30pm to contact them.
Specifically, gardaí are asking that a man who assisted at the scene by providing a jacket contact them at 023-8821570, the garda confidential telephone line 1800-666 111 or any garda station.
The 73 year old male pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by the car and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A garda spokesman said that the driver of the car was uninjured.
This stretch of road was closed to facilitate an examination by garda forensic collision investigators and local diversions were in place.
