Iceland brings Fermoy 28 jobs

Wednesday, 7th March, 2018 4:12pm

County Cork has added another Iceland grocery store, this time in Fermoy, where the opening has created 28 new jobs.

The newest Iceland, located in the Blackwater Shopping Centre on the Dublin Road, follows close on the heels of the one that opened in Ballincollig in January. Other stores are in Douglas and Midleton.

In 2017 the company announced an investment of €12 million into nine new Irish stores. Since then it has added more than 80 jobs in Cork. Iceland Ireland has said it will announce more store openings later this year.

The Fermoy Iceland is a 7,000 square foot premises.

It will open from 8am-9pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 10am-8pm on Sundays, stocking frozen produce along with local produce, chilled goods, and household items.

The company also used the opening to highlight its recently-announced initiative to eliminate plastic packaging from its own brand products by the end of 2023.

“We have had a great resopnse from customers across Cork and the rest of the country and are excited to be opening our fourth Cork store,” said Ron Metcalfe, Managing Director of Iceland Ireland.

“It's an exciting time to open in Fermoy and we look forward to the future in Cork.”

Iceland now operates 21 stores in 12 counties of Ireland, employing more than 470 staff.
