Building up to the qualifier

Wednesday, 13th June, 2018 4:13pm

Cork man Paul Cullen is heading to Belfast for his next bodybuilding World Championship qualifier.

The veteran competitor and qualified personal trainer has previously had two first-place finishes at these qualifiers in the lightweight category, where competitors average 70kg.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday, 24 June at the Belfast Waterfront Hall.

In 2015, he finished third in the World Championships in Scotland. Over a bodybuilding career spanning two decades and 25 competitions, he has never placed outside the top three.

Originally trained by Tim Wallace at Hardcore Gym on Watercourse Road in Blackpool, Paul now trains at the Middle Parish Community Centre on Grattan Street, where he also lives. In addition to an intense exercise regime, his preparation for competitions includes a low-carb diet over a period of several months.

“I will do everything in my power to give it my all for my beautiful city centre area, Grattan Street,” said Mr. Cullen. He also thanked his family and girlfriend, Middle Parish residents, and George Patterson, chairman of the Middle Parish Community Centre, for their support.
