Arrest after body discovered in Douglas

Update: A man in his 20s has been detained at Togher Garda Station by gardaí investigating the death of man whose body was found in Douglas this morning.

He was arrested this afternoon in Cork and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí have said that investigations into the man’s death are continuing.

 

Earlier 

Gardaí have cornered off an area of Douglas this morning after a man's body was found.

Gardaí were called to the scene at about 8.30am this morning where it is understood that a man in his 60s was found dead in a apartment, near Douglas GAA Club. 

A large garda presence is currently at the scene at Galway’s Lane where forensic investigators are in situ as well as detectives who are talking to local reisdents to establish if they heard or saw anything suspicious.  

The assistant state pathologist has been called and a post mortem will dictate the course of the investigation. 

The scene has been persevered for technical examination and the body remains at scene.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Galway’s Lane area of Douglas between 10pm on 1 July and 8.30am on 2 July to contact Togher Garda Station on 021-4947120, the garda confidential line on 1800-666111 or any garda station.
