Solidarity announce first batch of election candidates

Friday, 6th July, 2018 10:34am

Last night Solidarity, a left-wing political party previously known as the Anti-Austerity Alliance, held a selection convention and chose a number of candidates to stand in the next General Election and the 2019 Local Elections.

Sitting TD Mick Barry was selected to contest the next General Election in the Cork North Central constituency. He will hope to hold onto the seat he won in 2016.

Next year, current Cork City Councillor Fiona Ryan will again contest the Cork City North West ward for the party. She has been a councillor since 2016 after she was co-opted to fill Mick Barry’s vacant seat after his election to the Dáil.

Carol Brogan was selected by the party to contest the Local Elections in the Cork City North East ward. Current councillor Marion O’Sullivan will not contest the 2019 election and will step down once the current City Council term ends.

Solidarity said that they may hold a further convention in the autumn to select more Dáil or Council candidates.
