Busy night for fire services

Wednesday, 11th July, 2018 11:25am

It proved to be a busy night for fire services in the city, who dealt with a number of incidents last night.

Four units of Cork City Fire Brigade were called to an incident at a derelict premises on Devonshire Street West last night at around 10pm. The incident is the second fire at the same building in a matter of months, after services were called to a blaze at the same premises back in May.

There were fears initially for the safety of local residents and nearby business Pat McDonnell Paints. However, services were able to get the fire under control after an hour, with crews remaining at the scene after to ensure it remained dampened down.

An Garda Síochána are investigating the incident, and the scene is currently preserved for technical examination.

Fire services were also deployed to deal with gorse fires near The Glen last night, with three units tending to fire earlier in the evening and crew returning again later.

Cork City Fire Brigade posted on their social media at 11pm last night saying: “Both stations are very empty at the moment. All crews are busy at a number of different incidents throughout the city.”

Neither of the incidents reported any injuries.
