Gardaí investigate warehouse fire

An Garda Síochána are investigating a fire at a derelict premises in Cork city, the second incident at the same location in just a few months.

Four units of Cork City Fire Brigade were called to an incident at a derelict premises on Devonshire Street West on Tuesday at around 10pm. Fire services were called to a blaze at the same premises in May. The incidents took place near several blocks of housing and the nearby Pat McDonnell Paints warehouse.

Services were able to get the fire under control after an hour on Tuesday, with crews remaining at the scene after to ensure it remained dampened down. The scene was preserved for technical examination.

The incident marked a busy evening for Cork’s fire services, who dealt with a number of gorse fires in The Glen and a house fire on Tuesday.

Cork City Fire Brigade posted on their social media at 11pm that night saying: “Both stations are very empty at the moment.

“All crews are busy at a number of different incidents throughout the city.”

None of the incidents reported any injuries.
