Firefighter pay deal welcomed

Wednesday, 18th July, 2018 5:11pm

An agreement between firefighters and Cork City Council over a pay dispute was settled at a Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) meeting last Friday.

A notice of industrial action was served by firefighters to the Council earlier this month relating to pay adjustments the firefighters claim they were owed under the Public Services Stability Agreement 2018-2020.

Industrial action was due to begin from 25 July, but will now not take place after SIPTU trade union members accepted the proposals brokered between council management and union representatives.

The conciliation conference took place following a request by City Hall management to the WRC earlier this week to expedite the process.

Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Mick Finn welcomed the confirmation, saying: “I am glad to see that an agreement has been reached. The Fire Brigade provides a much valued service to our communities.

“I would also like to thank the Workplace Relations Commission for coming on board to help find a solution agreeable to both sides.”
