100 jobs as hotel opens

The first hotel built in the city centre in nearly 15 years opened today after a €30 million plus investment.

Once the old Fire Offices and School of Anatomy for UCC, Maldron Hotel South Mall was purchased by Dalata in 2016 as a 125 bedroom premises with additional work commencing in 2017.

The hotel now features 163 bedrooms, two restaurants, a bar, a cafe and five state of the art meeting rooms to cater for both leisure and business guests.

As well as the Grain and Grill Bar & Restaurant, it will also be home to a stand alone restaurant, the Italian Kitchen, which will open its doors in spring.

100 new jobs have been created with 30 additional jobs on the way.

Robert McCarthy, General Manager said: “We are delighted to officially open Maldron Hotel South Mall and rebuild areas of Parnell Place and Beasley Street which have sat derelict for 30 years.”
