Her family may now consider a civil case against O’Brien where the burden of proof is far less, but there is no custodial sentence. In a civil case they really only have to prove he probably killed her. On this I have no comment to make at this time.
The chief suspect in her death is another self-confessed partner beater, but one swallow doesn’t make a summer and so it should be. You can and should only be tried for the crime you’ve been accused of, not past incidents. He has proved on more than one occasion that he has no case to answer. In Sophie’s case the crime scene was left so long before being examined that vital clues and DNA were destroyed by the elements. However this week we learn that there are some samples kept. What could be the real killer’s blood, hair and boot marks from Sophie’s face, all in storage until such a time as advances in DNA technology will reveal the killers identity. Another letter from the grave, if you like.
Pulling a sickie I was amazed this week on air at the dozens of stories from listeners who have gone to the ends of the earth to “pull a sickie” when the sun is shining. One lone whinger said I shouldn’t entertain such lazy sentiments in the “current economic climate” Sod off I say. I admire the rescillience of the rebel Corkonian who will risk even his or her job in the pursuit of sunshine! Make the most of this current run for it will end. TP O’Connor in Ballydavid tells me that we’re in for a smashing June, July and August, but he would, the cute Kerryman touting for tourists to cross the county bounds. Predictweather.com in New Zealand say otherwise; a bad June and July for the south and a great back end of August and September. You takes your choice! |
