I have just started training for the Cork City marathon, not the entire thing, but a leg or perhaps two if I feel up to it. There was a great buzz on the streets of Cork last year as real athletes and the likes of myself and even worse than me got out there and ran, walked or in some cases almost crawled either the entire 26 miles of the marathon or a section of it. This year I am reliably informed that a 91 year old woman is taking part in the event and what an inspiration she will be to the rest of us trying to do our bit. To run six or ten miles for the likes of me is a real achievement and I remember after finishing up last year I had felt like I'd ran the entire marathon such was the adrenalin rush. Mind you I physically felt like I'd done the whole thing as well, but it was a good exhaustion and if I am to be honest the fact that I had never trained for a minute before the run probably had a lot to do with that. But this year will be different, I'll stick to the training, honest I will!!! Pat Kenny is the living embodiment of what I would call "disattachement", living in such a comfort zone that you start to believe your own spin. Any man, or woman, earning nearly a million a year for nothing more than mediocrity, who thinks they can just possess another mans land and claim it for themselves, is a perfect example of the height of haughtiness. If I were Kenny, in the public eye, I the last place I'd want to be seen is in court fighting with an elderly couple over land they possess a lease for. In retrospect the court should have made Kenny give something up in return for the land purchase though. Perhaps the late late show would have been a fair swop for gorse hill. Sounds fair to me. |
