We are no longer Fenian bastards, nor pigs that breed like vermin, nor murderers nor led by a pope who is really the devil, nor presidents and taoiseachs who are liars and cheats.

Well that's a relief I have to say, must be a wonderful thing to be so forgiving, so quickly, no penance, no purgatory, no limbo, no 40 days in the desert. Just come on down all is forgiven and forgotten. Even our patriot dead are forgotten. Who's next on our list of new friends, Gerry Adams surely at City Hall for the freedom of the city?

Why not we gave it to George Mitchell and what the hell did he ever achieve, sure wasn't it all down to Paisley. And if we served Duck ala'orange for the good doctor then what's on the menu for Gerry, humble pie?

Land of one thousand euro

I was down in Kerry last weekend where I heard the foreign tourist was becoming an endangered species, is it any wonder though, when you consider how the foreign currencies are weakening, particularly the dollar and sterling.

This country is one of the most expensive in the world and hitherto foreign visitors, who were being ripped off like the rest of us, were at least getting a better exchange rate for their money. So that sort of cushioned the blow, now they're feeling the pinch doubly, first in the banks and then in the shops, pubs, restaurants, hotels and every where else they're being over charged.

So is it any wonder they're staying at home. Not alone are we losing tourists but we're also losing Eastern European's who're leaving in their droves as the work on the building sites dry up.

I understand the numbers of flights from our airports to Eastern Europe are being cut back and that will no doubt please the people who complained about "all those foreigners taking our jobs".

What they may not have realised is that those same "foreigners" were also renting homes here, buying clothes, cars and the odd few even invested in motor insurance!

It's a real case of being careful what you wish for after all without the Brits, Yanks and Poles we're going to be shagged completely…
