The family of a recently deceased man contacted my programme on 96FM to complain about how their family was treated during the funeral of their uncle; the priest was most uncooperative to the point of being downright rude.

I know there is a thin line between taste and tack but that’s subjective, my taste might be your tack and I’m also aware that funerals and weddings along with all other church services have to be held within the realms of the church but in all fairness to the family that contacted my programme they were a decent bunch whose family had lived in the area for over 200 years and who had fundraised extensively for the church in question.

By today’s standards their wishes were modest enough but they were turned down by a rude and arrogant priest and shame on him for that.

Bereavements are difficult enough and the role of the priest in my opinion anyway should be to comfort and console and if that involves turning a blind eye to a flag here or personalised gift there then more power to them.

The Jazz

If there one thing I hate about the shagging jazz festival it’s the music and the crowds, the rest of it I have absolutely no problem with.

For that reason even though I will probably be killed for saying it I am heading west at 12.01 on Friday but to those of you intending to endure, I mean enjoy, the Jazz Weekend I say the best of luck to you.

Enjoy queuing for pints and then spilling them over yourself as you try to fight your way through the crowd back to your seat, enjoy having to plan days in advance where and when you want to eat if you are to get any seat at a half decent restaurant.

I wish you the best as you sit in drive time traffic which will extend all day, going nowhere fast and most of all enjoy queuing for taxis at night or walking home in the rain before you manage to flag a cab down.  Sounds great doesn’t it? Don’t know why I’m not hanging around!
