But back to the weather; 1976 was the hottest summer on record, even in Ireland where temperatures never dropped below the high 20s, in Kent that summer 35-38 degrees was the norm, together with swarms of bees and an epidemic of women who insisted on taking their clothes off at every available opportunity.

Yes indeed it was the year of the Streak (bugada bugada) and no sporting event was safe from well endowed busty women who felt the urge to rip all their clothes off, burst past security and take to cricket pitches, rugby triple crowns, soccer matches, even Wimbledon, great Scott!

None however at the scouting jamboreee, at Downe, Kent 1976. But my point is, if 1975 was a stinker for rain and 1976 was a scorcher for sun and streakers, just think of what we have to look forard to in 2009!

On the boardwalk

The countdown is on to our new bar / restaurant on Lapps Quay and we eventually settled on a name. In a recent on-air survey on the "best name for Neil's new restaurant/bar" the word Boardwalk kept coming up, so we've decided to go with the flow and call it "Boardwalk Bar and Grill".

D day is early October, in time for the bank holiday Jazz weekend, (I've even got the roaring forties booked and bought the baby grand piano!), all I've got to do now is convince the builders that I mean business!

I'm known to be an impatient man but this construction game is a totally different beast to broadcasting!

While I was expecting the site to be a bustling hive of activity some days I call in and the place is like the city morgue, with little or nothing happening.

I'm expecting a flurry of activity and truckloads of construction workers in the boots and low hanging jeans to arrive any day soon, seeing as they are back from the builders fortnight and desperate for work.

I'll keep you posted as to how things are proceeding on the boardwalk. It will be spectacular, even if I do say so myself.
