Bring back Bertie!
Last week I predicted the "bring back Bertie" calls and then the Sunday papers were full of them. Wish I could predict the lotto numbers as accurately. Even that would make no difference as I don't play lotto. What was Bertie's big crime anyway in hindsight? Alright he took a few bob from buddies to dig himself out of a hole, no sin there right? Sure there might be a tax liability but he can pay that and nobody died.

Just because he couldn't remember a few minor details isn't a hanging offence after all. What Bertie offered on the upside by far outweighed his minor indisgressions, shall we call them.

Anything would be better than this unholy trinity that is ruining the country at the moment. Biffo Cowan must have the worst political leaders rating since the foundation of the state and his cabinet is like a bunch of muppets completely lost and wishing they'd paid more attention at school. What the country needs is leadership and like it or not maybe even a dictatorship, or as close as we can get to one. Where one strong person makes the decisions and sticks to them, not dawdles or hums and haws, like the current Taoiseach, who doesn't even look the part, nor inspire any kind of confidence.

He should either clean his act up in a back me or sack me kind of way or let Bertie return in triumph from the wilderness. There is no real credible alternative at the moment I feel.

What recession?
Am I missing something with regard to this so called recession? I saw Gay Byrne on TV last weekend saying if you think things are bad now, just wait till 2009 baby!

I would love to have asked him what did he mean? Where was he getting his inside information from and was he going to be cashing in on the knowledge he had gleaned.

I know that in the current climate if you have property worth say Ä100 million on paper and its now only worth Ä30 million... you are in trouble. But if you have a good job of say Ä65,000 per year, low or no borrowings and working then you are actually richer now than last year.

Interest rates are down, every shop has 20 per cent or 40 per cent off, petrol is cheaper, clothes are cheaper, holidays are cheaper, eating out is keener, much more bang for your buck in the supermarkets....in fact the supermarkets are fighting like cats with each other to increase their own market share, by slashing prices on everything, offering two for one offers on a huge range of food and household items.
