Page 1 of 2 Do you know that 172,000 foreign drivers who should have got penalty points were let off scot-free simply because they were foreign nationals who couldn't be prosecuted because the shower in Dail Eireann didn't write the legislation correctly? You would imagine that they should be able to get the little that they actually do right, but evidently they cant. Rotten IrelandOn top of that I have heard it from the horse's mouth that gardaí don’t chase up on a lot of foreign motorists with traffic offences simply because they cannot find them! It's a different ball game for Paddy though isn't it? If you or I do the slightest thing wrong the book is thrown mercilessly at us in what is another classic example of two-tier Ireland. We are the soft touches who are always targeted for the slightest misdemeanour. This week I got a parking ticket – but I am going to fight it because I wasn't even parked in the true sense of the word. I was set down outside the school of music waiting for my daughter. No one came along and asked me to move instead they took the bully boy option of sending me a fine in the post. The reason I was set down is that the area was full of winos and I will not allow my young daughter to face that sort of dangerous harassment coming out of school. There was nowhere to park so I stopped and waited and I would do the same again rather than leave her to the mercy of the wino's that are causing so much trouble on our streets. Now if you are going to write to me and tell me to refer to them as homeless people don't bother – I am sick of this politically correct and bleeding heart society. I would rather live in a society where a young girl can walk to the bus stop and take the bus home – but that's not Cork for you. Yesterday a woman came up to me in desperation asking if I could do anything to save her business – we are in the middle of a recession and to make matters worse her business is being plagued by winos. Call the gaurds I said – "I have" she reassured me – "I do it all the time" so now her last hope is to contact me! How sad is that? |
